THE LEAST OF THESE
The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of
the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
How can we serve Jesus our Lord?
By taking care of the ‘least of these.’
The least of these are in our midst.
We see them every day.
We pass them by, but they aren’t like us.
And then we walk away.
We never see their hurting hearts; their open wounds don’t show.
We are much too busy, too much to do; we cannot stop or slow.
But Jesus said the least of these are those we should tend to.
With food or drink or clothes and love, we should show them Jesus
through what we do.
We can wipe their tears and ease their pain.
We teach them, love them and make it plain.
That it is not because of who we are that we offer them this care.
It’s because of the Jesus that we know that we are even there.
Our desire is that they know Him— just like we do.
And experience His love, forgiveness and transformation,
That washes us clean and makes us new.
So when we see the least of these and look them in the eyes;
Remember Jesus’ words to us, that on that final day, when
The King will reply,
“Whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine,
you did for me.”
